Two events from our friends at Ranelagh Harriers…

Richmond Half Marathon Sunday 11th May 2008

Dysart Dash Sunday 29th June 2008

Are you looking for a post FLM Half Marathon or an early summer 10K? If you are then you need look no further than either of these two popular races organised by Richmond upon Thames based Ranelagh Harriers.

Starting close to their Richmond club house the half marathon is predominantly flat and includes stretches of route along the river Thames and takes in Hampton Court and Kingston.

The Dysart Dash is also fast and flat and also includes long riverside stretches.

FUN IN THE PARK
Another invitation – any takers? Brent is our events supremo, please let him know if you’re keen on the race series below:

Your club is cordially invited to take part in the 2008 Surrey Road League. The League is organised and sponsored by Surrey Athletics, the county’s governing body. It costs nothing to enter!

This year the League encompasses six local races, including all four of the county championship events. There are team and individual competitions, each decided by points scored in the six races.

The League table is decided by the best four scores out of the six races for each team and individual. After the last race, plaques are awarded to the winning teams and winning individuals in eight categories – senior men and women, men over 40, over 50 and over 60, and women over 35, over 45 and over 55.

The races incorporated into the League this year are:

May 4th Sutton 10km
May 11th Richmond Half Marathon (also county championship)
June 1st Dorking 10 miles (also county championship)
June 29th Dysart Dash 10km at Ham (also county championship)
July 20th Elmbridge 10km at Walton
August 10th Belgrave 5km at Wimbledon (also county championship)

Some 24 clubs took part in 2007, and most if not all are expected to sign up again this year. Please consider joining them! Electing to join the League commits you to nothing – you do not have to field runners in each race, you will simply score points as and when you do appear. More details about this year’s competition can be found here: http://www.surreyathletics.org.uk/road/2007_2008/league/roadleague.htm.

Friends, Romans, Barnes Runners….congratulations to Sam Allpass and David Allen who both ran personal bests in the Rome Marathon on March 16.

Sam ran 3:03:56 (believed to be a new Barnes Runners club record) and David 3:06:56 on a pretty tough course. Forget what they told you at schools about the Romans building great roads – about a third of the course consisted of less than runner-friendly cobbles. Still, the course wasn’t built in a day.

You can check out their split times and even watch video of them finishing here.

Congratulations to Dave Kelly (right) and Dylan Grimes on top 10 finishes in the Richmond Park Time Trial.

Thirteen Barnes Runners have taken part in the weekly 5K time trials (each Saturday, 9am). They’re great fun - and free to enter.

You can see the club’s informal league table here. The event also needs volunteers to help out and keep it free to runners. Find out more on this and other local time trials at www.parkrun.com.
FREE FITNESS TRAINING
Alex from British Military Fitness will be holding two more fitness training sessions with the club – on April 8 and May 6. The sessions are free – the club pays the fee. All you need to do is turn up at Rose House. Feedback from the first two sessions has been excellent. They’re great fun and they can also help you improve your running fitness and speed.
YOUR RUNNING WARDROBE
Club shirts have sold out in some sizes, but I still have a few left in short and long-sleeved versions. They are available at a knockdown price of £10, with the cost subsidised by the club. Contact me to buy one.
