Our friendly rivals, the Sheen Shufflers, have challenged us on in another 5k handicap race Sheen Shufflers v Barnes Runners 5km Handicap.

It will be held on Sunday Oct 21 at 9:30am starting at the Ballet School – we’ll meet at Roehampton Gate, leaving there at 9.15am.

Staying in Richmond Park, there’s a new time trial starting there this Saturday (13th).
MORE PARK LIFE
Feeling that autumn chill yet? Snap up a long-sleeved Barnes Runners T-shirt for just £10 – all sizes, from small to Jim, available. The shirts are made by Wasp Sports, are breathable and display our logo and website prominently. The model costs more.
Remember, this offer is not available in the shops.
MORE PARK LIFE
The handicap race is great for everyone as the handicap system gives everyone an equal chance of winning and a chance to recover from World Cup upsets.

If you would like to join in please let Brent know our most recent 5km time on brent.davis@bt.com – don’t worry if you haven’t run 5k before we can estimate a time for you.
The Richmond Park Time Trial is also over 5k, it’s free to enter and hassle-free – no numbers to pin to your shirt or anything complicated like that.
It’s from the same stable as the Bushy Park Time Trial and the Wimbledon Common Time Trial – events with a friendly atmosphere. More details here.
A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR
Thanks to personal trainer Suzi Hall of Innovate Fitness for donating two prizes at our
autumn social event at The Bridge. Suzi has been a Barnes Runner since day one and has offered members special deals for massage and personal training. Her top tips feature in this month’s Runners World – a copy is attached.
FREE SHOE TRIAL
A special treat on Sunday, October 28. Joel Sinnott from Nike will be at the club to let us sample the latest Nike gear.

Joel says: “This visit should offer runners a chance to:

* Understand their own personal running style through video gait
Analysis;
* Try out the latest running shoes and spikes in a training
environment so they can understand the benefits for themselves;
* Receive a demonstration and explanation around Nike Plus and
learn about how Nike Plus can enhance their training programme.
* Learn more about the range of Nike products and how they could help to improve their performance;
* Receive information first hand on future innovative products
not yet on the market.”

Joel will be parked in the car park near the tennis courts along Queen Elizabeth Walk from 9.30am. See you there.

GOLD MEDALS ALL ROUND
Thank you to Damaris for organising our autumn social event at The Bridge. We raise £130 for Leukaemia Research, our official club charity. Thanks to LR for donating various raffle prizes.

Well done too to Suzanne Gill, Sophia Turner and Sarah Hornby who helped out at the Barnes Jumble Sale, which raised £8,000 for local good causes.

A NEW HOME?
As you may have noticed, we are now effectively homeless.

The committee has been looking for a new HQ since the management of the rugby clubhouse changed hands. It looks likely that we’ll be moving to Rose House, HQ of the Barnes Community Association.

Keep an eye on your inbox for more details when the move happens. We’re grateful to the BCA for their kind offer. Why not join them if you are not already a member.
