WE ARE 2 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
Barnes Runners are two years old this week. Yes, it was on Tuesday, January 18 2005 that a dozen of us responded to posters placed on trees and in shops by Janet Stansfield.
Barnes Runners was born at the Barnes RFC clubhouse, from where we set off for our first (and in one or two cases our last) run.

Since then the club has grown and grown. We now have around 60 paid-up (thanks Nick) members. Marathons, half-marathons, relays, 10ks and 5ks have been run. Richmond Park has been lapped. Shufflers have been challenged. Breakfasts have been eaten.

The anniversary falls on Thursday, so there’s no club run planned. Some of us will be celebrating by doing something completely different – such as going for a run.

How did you spend New Year’s Day? Nursing a hangover under the duvet, or were you among the hundreds who took part in the New Year’s Day 10k in Hyde Park. Three Barnes Runners took part. Sam Allpass, running for his other club Serpentine (aka Barnes Reserves), was first Barnes Runner home.

Your chairman, as you can see from the picture, ambled home in a slightly more relaxed time. Ella Truscott completed the BR trio home .Thanks to David Knight for the photographs – check out www.dwknight.co.uk for more great running photography.

SERPENTINE NEW YEAR'S DAY 10K
Stand by for a tough Kiwi/Aussie battle in the Flora London Marathon this April. The official Barnes Runners entries (one of the many perks of club membership) have been awarded to Jim Perrie and Brent Davis.

Their training is already proving to be competitive. Brent has been moonlighting for Sheen Shufflers (we await a formal bid before the transfer window closes). Jim managed to set off a speed camera on Chiswick Bridge last week. Next month’s Bugle photographs will be supplied by the Metropolitan Police.

Good luck to Jim, Brent and everyone else training for marathons this year. If you haven’t signed up for one yet, why not try Rotterdam? It’s a fast course and a few of us (David Cornock, Dave Kelly, Sarah Hynes etc) are contemplating it. Why not join us?

Rotterdam takes place on April 15 – one week before London. It also features a 10k run for those who don’t fancy the full 26-mile torture.

Jim leaves Barnes on Wednesday (January 17) for a few weeks overseas (altitude training, I suspect). You may want to join him for a drink or two after Tuesday’s run. I think I heard him say, “I’m buying”, or was it “I’m flying”………

MARATHON MARVELS
BE BRIGHT, BE SEEN!
Our January sale is still on. Now that we’re exploring the darkest areas of Roehampton by night (thanks, Ella) these bibs are more essential than ever. Buy your own at the knockdown price of £5 – they cost £8 in the shops. Contact David Cornock or Nick Willan for your personal bib.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS
Ask not what your running club can do for you, ask what you can do for Barnes Runners, as JFK meant to say. All bright ideas for the club’s third year, offers of help with rotas, inside info on great races etc gratefully received. Speak to a committee member – our next meeting is scheduled for January 31. Ella has sent committee members the Spring 2007 rota for taking meets – please read it and let her know if you can’t do your turn.
