REVEALED: SECRET LIFE OF BARNES RUNNERS

Barnes Runners have been rocked by allegations that some members have taken up.....running. The news – revealed in the exclusive Barnes Bugle photograph on the front page - has shaken the club to the core. It threatens to ruin our reputation as a group of friends who meet for breakfast on Sundays.

The photograph is of Fiona Fenton handing over to Craig Forrest on the last leg of the River Relay on September 10. Barnes Runners entered two teams - the Towpath Trotters and the River Runners - in a sign of our growing strength. The Trotters narrowly triumphed over the River Runners, missing out on a shock overall victory by a little more than an hour. We all recorded respectable times, despite one or two runners getting lost en route - the River Relay doesn't always follow the river. Forewarned is forearmed for next year.

The Trotters came 30th (out of 40), the River Runners 36th. Take a bow, Towpath Trotters Nick Willan, Sarah Hynes, Brent Davis, Sarah Pitcher, Kat Lantz and Jim Perrie. Well done River Runners Marina Othman, Suzanne Edwards, Alex Buck, Deli Mireskandari, Fiona Fenton and Craig Forrest.

The gold medal goes to Brent for organising all our efforts.

BARNES RUNNERS THREESOME

Congratulations to Jim Perrie and Adam Thorne, who both completed the London Triathlon. Jim came fourth in the over-50s, which was a surprise - we all thought he was 32.

Three members completed the London Duathlon in Richmond Park on September 17. Brent Davis finished in 1 hr 46min. Sarah Hynes came 95th in the female challenge distance in a time of 1hr 57min and Oscar Sumpter finished in 2hr 01.

CAPTION COMPETITION

What did Damaris say to Helen that was so shocking? Why was Nick looking the other way? What was Kal staring at? Was Kieran holding up the whole pub? Whose hand was struggling to get into the picture? You decide……

CAPTION COMPETITION

The photograph, if you haven’t guessed by now, was taken at our September social evening at The Bridge pub. A gold medal to Damaris for organising the event and sponsoring a raffle prize or two - and thanks to everyone who made it such a fun night. All ideas for our Christmas bash gratefully received.....

MARATHON MEN

Good luck to Dave Kelly, who's running the Abingdon Marathon on October 22. Dave has pioneed a new approach to training that involves combining two of the three triathlon disciplines. When cycling into the River Thames at speed becomes an Olympic sport, possibly in 2012, Dave will be among the medal favourites.

Good luck too to Nick Willan, who's taking part in the Great North Run half marathon on October 1.

Entries to next year's London Marathon close on October 20. Click on www.london-marathon.co.uk for more information.

CHANGING FACES

Our founder, Janet Stansfield, has sadly stepped down as club secretary. We are all very grateful to Janet for her efforts in creating Barnes Runners - we wouldn't be here today were it not for her drive and enthusiasm. Hopefully, Janet will still take the occasional training session, where members can benefit from her expertise as a personal trainer - and learn to bear-walk. We all wish Janet well with her business - you may have spotted the odd link to www.youniquefitness.co.uk on our own website www.barnesrunners.co.uk.

Happy Running
